No wonder the European models emphasize "investment" rather than "support." (And given the recent financial struggles of the European Union, the altruistic crowdfunding initiatives might have even more of an uphill fight if accountability is perceived to be lacking.)

Re: What’s The Difference Between Crowdfunding in Europe vs. the US?

We are researching crowd funding in the US versus Europe right now and see the following situation in short:

1) KKBB has a huge advantage over Kickstarter and Indigogo because of their ability to provide an ROI to investors. The US is working on new models and give the US crowd funding companies the same advantage.

2) The EU market with over 300 Million and the European Market with 500 Million is equal or bigger to the US market so that should be no advantage or disadvantage.

3) The single biggest disadvantage for crowd funding in Europe is the European spending culture. Giving and donating is deeply ingrained in the US culture. There are more charity parties in the US than any other fun and drink party. On the other side in Europe people point to the government if anybody is in need for anything. "Giving" is a very rare commodity in Europe - and "giving" is the foundation of crowd funding.

4) Technology wise European platforms are always a bit more complicated, less easy to navigate more clicks to get to the same information and so forth. European software is in particular almost always over engineered and highly restrictive "You have to do this, before I show you that" "You need to do this before I 'allow' you to do that" This is not a knock out criteria but certainly a disadvantage and KKBB is in that category too - the name alone makes it hard to remember, type, search...

I hope this will change - let's make a change :)

Re: 7 Reasons Why Crowdfunding Projects Fail

Thanks for the invitation. Four months past this deadline Mark has been silent about the issue.

So, all the original questions are now proven to be true. And, Mark Bell is exposed for the fraudster he is.

Mark, I'm calling you out. You knew you couldn't relaunch the magazine with 5 grand but you took the money anyways. You're a fraud. You've ruined the reputation of Film Threat forever. The gifting model is obviously a tremendous resource for creative projects, but I think equity-crowdfunding has a much greater potential for funding technology and web services.

Re: The Tips That Helped One Kickstarter Project Raise $20K in 2 Days

Hello,

Great respect for your project and I am super happy your project got funded at least for the first goal. Mark has made it clear that he would pay us more if he could. The fact that he is even offering any compensation at all instead of EXPECTING us to work for free for him forever shows a HUGE amount of respect to us, in my opinion. For some of us (myself included), writing is what we do/want to do for a living. We have to take jobs that aren't very fun to supplement the ones that are. Film Threat could be a gateway to a more lucrative job in the same field, an eventual source for a livable wage or just a fun thing I do on the side for as long as possible. No matter what the outcome, I want to keep working for Mark because he is respectful, generous and supportive as hell. Besides, if I were one to scoff at $5, I would have told my grandma as much years ago.

Re: Film Threat Narrows Its Crowdfunding Focus

Honestly, Brian, I'm done with the conversation.
